Position Summary:
The Building Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough and accurate inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong technical knowledge, and excellent communication skills to effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform comprehensive inspections of new construction, alterations, and repairs to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, zoning ordinances, and safety regulations.
2. Evaluate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
3. Conduct inspections at various stages of construction and maintain accurate records of findings, violations, corrections, and follow-up actions.
4. Investigate complaints and reports of non-compliance, and take appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to regulations.
5. Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals to resolve code-related issues and provide guidance on compliance requirements.
6. Review and approve construction plans, specifications, and permit applications for compliance with building codes and regulations.
7. Conduct research and stay updated on current building codes, industry trends, and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and professional growth.
8. Prepare detailed inspection reports, including observations, violations, recommendations, and corrective actions, in a timely manner.
9. Provide guidance and support to colleagues, contractors, and property owners on building code interpretations, compliance standards, and necessary corrective measures.
10. Participate in training programs, seminars, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in building inspection techniques, code enforcement, and related areas.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in building inspection, architectural design, or construction management.
3. Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal building codes, zoning ordinances, and safety regulations.
4. Strong knowledge of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and their compliance requirements.
5. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify potential code violations and safety hazards.
6. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
7. Proficient in using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant inspection tools and technologies.
8. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple inspections simultaneously.
9. Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and exercise sound judgment.
10. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various work sites as required.
